10 Forgotten WWE Upsets
Heath Slater defeats Chris Jericho (April 20th, 2010)
The greatest jobber of the 21st century, Heath Slater has made a legacy out of being an undercard enhancement talent who is often hapless in his matches. ‘The One-Man Rock Band’ has been the victim of squash matches by various returning legends and current stars but will once in a blue moon eke out a win.
Going on to pin stars such as John Cena, Seth Rollins and Edge – perhaps Heath’s most surprising win was over Chris Jericho, with no shenanigans.
Heath wrestled Chris Jericho on an April episode of NXT, with the result seeming obvious – especially as Y2J was World Heavyweight champion days before. At the 3-minute mark, Slater countered a Walls of Jericho into a pinfall to get a fluke win. Wade Barrett at ringside seemed shocked that the obvious, doofas rockstar pinnned the ‘Ayatollah of Rock ‘N’ Rolla’.
More memorably but still unbelievably, Slater eliminated both Jericho and Edge at SummerSlam when The Nexus took on Team WWE, with Heath pinning both within about a minute of each other.
A career enhancement talent, it is always nice to see Heath get a shock win even over huge wrestlers.
