4. Smart And Unique Booking
Impact recently have had a tendency to feel like they’re booking themselves into corners. You can very often see the direction they’re going in, yet they like to head to the end a little quick sometimes and book themselves into corners at times. This can very often lead to a loose loose scenario where no matter what happens, someone will end up coming out of the match getting hurt (in storyline, not physically).
At Turning Point we kind of saw this booking again with The X Division title match. It’s very clear that they are setting Steve Maclin up for The X Division, however he’s very often in multi man matches so he can lose without getting pinned. With this X Division triple threat match, you could pretty much read what would happen given that Trey had only just won the title. However Impact had something else up their sleeve and it was very clever.
The finish of pinning one wrestler while the other remains unpinned in a 3 way is very over done as a way out to protect someone (Impact themselves have done it so much recently). At Turning Point however Impact had Trey Miguel pin both Laredo Kid and Steve Maclin, The protection here for Maclin was that at the last minute, he managed to get his shoulder up. This left Trey making a single pin on Laredo Kid. This was a clever and unique way to make the champion look strong (as he very nearly pinned both men), as well as you’re eventual challenger looking strong for kicking out.
