#5: Diamond Mine Recruitment?
This is more of a speculation than a Takeaway, but there is a reason for it. Tyler Rust was one of the unlucky members of the NXT roster to get the call on Friday. A new face that was a part of a new faction, the release came as a surprise. It had me wondering, “what’s next for Diamond Mine?” With Malcolm, Roderick Strong, and Suzuki, you still have a core for your faction but is that enough? I’m not even sure if Suzuki will be an active member of the group, so to watch Rust leave throws a wrench in the progression of this group.
Last night, we saw Malcolm Bivens leaving Mr. Regal’s office after securing a Cruiserweight Title shot with KUSHIDA on next week’s NXT. As he was leaving, we saw him handing out business cards to the security in the hallway. Bivens is always recruiting, but with a member gone, it makes more sense than ever for him to really be on the lookout for new and fresh talent. Rewind to a little bit earlier in the evening and we have the Adam Cole/Kyle O’Reilly face off. During that faceoff, the ring is full of “security” that is supposed to keep the two separated. Among men in that security, Parker Boudreaux and Bronson Steiner. I’m sure there were others, but those are the ones that stood out. Do those two things have anything significant in common? Absolutely not. But it is worth noting that Bivens is looking at security as potential clients and those two guys are being used as security. I think a lot of people might have expected them to be used in the Breakout tournament. Maybe it didn’t happen because they aren’t ready or maybe, just maybe they have other plans for them?
