#4: Gigi Dolin is going to be a star in NXT
Gigi made a name for herself in the indies under the name Priscilla Kelly. She has all the talent in the world to make a name for herself, but the opportunity just hasn’t been presented to her since arriving in NXT. Last night, that opportunity came. The match itself was nothing to bat an eye at. Just your basic showcase type of match that allowed the fans to finally get a real look at Gigi in the ring. She did a great job and the whole presentation of her from the entrance to the backstage promo to her post-victory, she came across as a future star.
One of the things that I always look for in new talent is “the look.” Does your look separate you from other people? Gigi Dolin checks that box. Her movement in the ring and the way she presents herself outside of it also separate her. I didn’t watch her match and think “she reminds me of such and such.” The NXT women’s division is the best in the business, I will not hear otherwise. But lately, it seems like it has fallen flat and I haven’t been able to quite pinpoint why that is. You have Raquel as a champion that is just there going through the motions. Io is tied up with the tag titles that mean absolutely nothing at this point and Candice is playing mom in vignettes with Johnny and Indie. Not to mention, Franky Monet should be the next superstar up but she can’t seem to get in the ring frequent enough. The division has no spark to it and even if Dakota Kai was to win the title at Takeover, I don’t know if that would be enough to revitalize it. New faces that can take the torch and run with it are needed right now more than ever, and Gigi definitely looks to be someone that can do just that.
