#2: Is Odyssey Jones the next big thing in NXT?
Being a big man with a lot of charisma is usually a winning combination in wrestling. There will always be a need for big men. It makes for great clashes among other big men and they are very helpful in making smaller guys look tough and determined when they throw them all around the ring. David vs Goliath will be a story that can be told a million times over again, and still be successful with the right talent. Odyssey Jones is a guy that will be very good for the future of WWE. At 27 years old, he still has a little bit of time to perfect his in-ring work while working on his character for when the time comes. But what I saw last night is a guy that is never close to being ready for the big stage.
From the moment Jones walked out of the backstage area, he commanded the audience to not only pay attention to him but get invested in him. Get on your feet, make some noise and let’s get this party started is what I saw him asking from the audience as he made his way to the ring. In the ring? He plays well to the audience, keeping them invested and making them want to get behind him. After his victory, he has an interview ringside that is short and simple but delivered with high energy to keep the fans in the palm of his hands. Being a babyface is no easy task these days in wrestling, but Jones seems to get what it takes albeit a small sample, it’s not something I see from very many young talents these days. I fully expect him to win the Breakout Tournament, no matter who his finals opponent is. And with a new era possibly coming in NXT, I wouldn’t be shocked one bit to see Odyssey Jones win the NXT Championship with his guaranteed title shot afterward. I can think of no better young talent that is ready for that stage than this man.
