Women’s Divison: Under Reconstruction

See the source image

AEW’s women’s division seemed to be getting on track earlier this year but we’ve gone back to a solitary women’s segment per show. It seems that the promotion is going under some renovations with their roster with an influx of talent who were not present earlier this year such as Kris Statlander, Julia Hart and a Japanese star who returned this week, Yuka Sakazaki.

The owner of the greatest theme in wrestling history, Yuka was phased out of AEW in 2020 largely due to travel restrictions that forced her to stay out of the USA. She returned this week and faced the common opponent of new/returning stars, the reliable and consistent Penelope Ford. Yuka adds strength to the Japanese women’s roster the company boosts that also features Hikaru Shida and Riho as well as unsigned members like Maki Itoh.

It looks like the company is reconstructing their division in order to add more talent and depth to its roster. With Yuka winning this week with the Magic Girl Splash over the established Ford which re-comments Sakazaki as a star on the women’s division as she was in late 2019. Let’s hope AEW can try to reverse their fortunes this time with their female entourage.
