5 Takeaways From AEW Dynamite (July 7th 2021)
AEW returned to their road schedule this week as they moved away from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida to being back to travelling and performing to fans in attendance. This week’s special Road Rager event signalled All Elite Wrestling emerging out the other side of the pandemic better than when they entered with a great deal of history being made in what will likely be the most tumultuous time for wrestling in many years.
More Traditional Wrestling Stipulations?
This week saw the stipulation blow-off between Cody Rhodes and QT Marshall in what will likely be the duo’s last meeting in a while (more on that later) as they fought in a surprisingly compelling Strap Match.
AEW is known for mixing their new wrestling style with more traditional ‘rassling aspects from companies such as the NWA. Previously, they have held a Dog Collar, Bunkhouse and WarGames-inspired Blood and Guts Match both drawing influence from the southern style of the 70s and 80s. The inclusion of these style bouts in the company is likely the doing of Cody Rhodes’s whose father – the iconic Dusty Rhodes – was a representative for these rugged matches.
With more old-school wrestling gimmicks taking place, it seems AEW has found a niche for themselves and their fans. It is likely that we will continue to see if more bouts such as the Strap Match take place in the promotion.
