Recently Impact Wrestling have really been putting a rising focus onto the X Division. The matches have had the right amount of exposure and it feels like slowly it’s getting back to the importance of how it felt when the title was introduced back in 2002.
One thing that Impact has done well recently is reintroduced the “No Limits” factor, that is definitely something that we see when we look at the current champion Josh Alexander. He is certainly someone who can work any style of wrestling weather it be mat wrestling, submission or high flying? Any style he can do add it to his mix and it’s something that Impact are doing well with adding many different wrestlers with many different styles (which is what the X Division has always been about).
Recently the run that Josh Alexander has been on has been pretty incredible, so much so that he’s been getting the point now where he’s been calling out former X Division champions. We recently saw former Impact Wrestler and X Division champion Jake Crist answer the challenge, now at Victory Road on September 18th we will see X Division royalty Chris Sabin take on Josh Alexander. If Josh emerges victorious at Victory Road then it’s a big statement and there’s always another question of what other former X Division champions could we see turn up and face Josh Alexander’s? Especially as he seems to be laying challenges down now.
5. Alex Shelly
Alex Shelly is a very unique case when it comes to the X Division as he was a wrestler who was always associated with it and you could very easily place him in the category of wrestlers who helped build the division, however he only held the title once and that didn’t come until 2009.
Alex Shelly hasn’t been seen in Impact since the beginning of the year where he had to depart due to his job outside wrestling, yet we’ve recently seen him return to the ring and he does feel like does feel like he has more to offer in Impact.
Given that we’re seeing Alexander take on Sabin at Victory Road, it would add so much more if he would be able to take on and beat Alex Shelly also (assuming Josh beats Sabin). It would also have an extra layer maybe later down the road too as The North did take the Tag Title from The Guns too, so who’s to say there wont be a bigger story in the background?

Petey Williams vs Josh Alexander is a must! Been calling for it since the build up to Slammiversary (for Bound For Glory or later).
