Wrestlebuddy writers Andy and Dale recently had the opportunity to sit down with one of the biggest names from the legendary wrestling promotion ECW, Sabu. He had a lot to say about the business from the past including ECW, the WWE’s watered down version, putting matches together with Kurt Angle and Paul Heyman himself.
An interesting thing that was worth noting though came up when asking about his unofficial retirement due to not being able to perform at a level he is happy with. When speaking about his back and it needing surgery, he stated he doesn’t want to do that and unless it heals on its own, there would be no return to the ring. Andy would then ask about a managerial role or backstage and he said backstage for sure. BUT if he was to come back for one more match, he would get in the ring tomorrow to face Brock Lesnar.
Here is the quote:
“If I came back for one more match, I’d come back tomorrow for Brock Lesnar. But for anybody else, they’d have to wait.”
When followed up with why he would want to poke that bear, Sabu had this to say:
“Because he is the best and I like watching him. He’s legit and I feel I’m legit. Not as legit as him and he’s the type of opponent I like. He’s not gonna do my stuff.”
He would then finish that up by saying that Brock is way better than he gets credit for. A match that I’m sure many would be intrigued by if it was possible to have Sabu in his prime, but maybe not so much these days.
