Been a long time, shouldn’t have left you… okay, that wasn’t going to work out like I had hoped, so we’ll just get right into the thick of things.  This is usually where I tell you the 5 biggest takeaways from this week’s show but I thought I might switch it up a bit and hit you with 3 hot takes instead.  With the show recycling talent each week, it seemed like the takeaways were just getting repeated every other week so this will get rid of that repetitive talk and allow me to focus on giving you guys something worth your time.  So without further to do…

Sammy & Tay Are Here to Stay

When these two came out as a couple together, too many people in the Twitterverse had an issue with it.  After days of non stop harassment, the two asked for privacy and started blocking literally everybody that did not grant them that one very simple wish.  Since then, they have embraced the hate and decided to throw it back in the face of all those who had an issue with them.  From posting pictures together non stop, setting up an email for all their bookings as a couple only from now on and even the matching tattoos, they have become the most obnoxious couple we love to hate.

So it was only logical that they take this unbearable love to the next level and throw it in our faces on television.  With Cody and Brandi Rhodes no longer on AEW television, they needed somebody to step up as the “it” couple of AEW.  Whether or not we are accepting of them is another story but we can’t ignore the fact that “it” is happening.  Last night they stepped up to American Top Team as their next challengers and it makes perfect sense with Scorpio Sky taking Sammy Guevara’s TNT title and Van Zant destroying Tay Conti in the process.

After a verbal back and forth between Tay, Sammy and Dan Lambert, Sammy left with one final parting shot for not only Dan Lambert after he gave the TNT title a kiss but all the haters as well.  “I know we’ve been living rent free in your head ever since you got here but if you only knew what Tay and I did while wearing that belt, then you’d know we now live in your mouth too.”  It was a funny line that has gotten under the skin of quite a few people and for all those who want this to end, it’s only getting started because as I already stated… Sammy and Tay are here to stay.

Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder

Over the last few months, AEW has done a brilliant job of not only building Wardlow up as a monster but as a monster that the fans LOVE to watch.  He plays to the crowd perfectly and has turned ordinary squash matches into actual events that we all looked forward to watching.  With that phase now complete, Wardlow has moved on to the next phase of the “Turn Wardlow into a superstar” plan.  The breakup from Max was expected and we could see it from a mile away but that didn’t dampen the effect of it at all.  The crowd erupted as he turned his back on MJF and has only blossomed more in the 3 episodes of Dynamite since.  He cut a decent promo that shows that he can stand alone on the microphone.

This week, Max laid down the law as he let it be known that Wardlow is still under contract to him and he has no issue with paying him to sit at home until everyone forgets him.  And that is what phase 2 will be.  As Wardlow was held back by 10+ members of security, he looked ready to break free and rip MJF to shreds.  That did not happen though and he eventually calmed down, turned around and left.  For the next few weeks, we will be deprived of what has become one of the best parts of Dynamite every week.  Wardlow.  So over the next few weeks while he is away, the chants will grow louder.  The fans will grow hungrier and that NEED to see Max get the powerbomb symphony will become so insatiable that when the moment finally does happen, Wardlow will become a made man.

Long Live Dax Harwood

Let’s forget for a second that FTR is arguably the best tag team in the world today and have been so for quite some time and that they are not a team.  Where is Dax Harwood in this scenario?  If you’re having a hard time trying to place that, let me help you out.  Go watch the match Dax had with CM Punk on Dynamite if you haven’t already and let that answer your question.  So to put it in the simplest way possible, Dax Harwood is really, really, really good at this professional wrestling thing.

What makes Dax stand out from the rest?  He’s a student of the game at a level not many others can claim to be.  He studies the all time greats and what he does with that knowledge is uses it for the world to see.  If you didn’t know much about Bret Hart, Dax can help you.  Think you know tag team wrestling?  If you are not a fan of what FTR does, then chances are you don’t know tag team wrestling.  The style of Midnight Express will live on as long as Dax and Cash are around because that’s not only how good he is at wrestling but how much he cares and loves professional wrestling.

I think this week’s episode of Dynamite has proven that in the sad case that FTR ever does split, Dax will have no problem staying relevant. He could become a singles star tomorrow and be an immediate player for the TNT Title, putting on wrestling clinics with anyone and everyone.  He has that uncanny ability to switch from tag team wrestler to singles competitor so effortlessly while staying true to his style.  He is the last of a dying breed and we can only hope that he is able to instill these ideas of the business in the next generation.
