Impact over the last few months have been going through a bit of a revamp when it comes to their roster. We’ve seen many names who have been with the company for some time make their exit, and just this last week we saw Impact update their roster once again. This time we saw names like FinJuice, El Phantasmo and Hikuleo all be removed since not being used since around Bound For Glory time.
With many names coming in and out of the company consistently, you have to think that the roster is not yet finished being updated. Impact do well at giving something for everyone on their roster to do, however when you look at specific names on the roster currently and over the past few years, you have to wonder who that next name could be to depart if they continue to get lost?
Impact have a great amount of talent on their roster and the Impact fans are behind all of the talent that Impact have their hands on. If Impact want to back wrestlers or Knockouts who are drifting away, then maybe this is the time to? Otherwise it may be too little too late. Lets have a look at 5 names who may fall into that category where if Impact don’t strike soon, then it may be too late?
5. Shera
Shera has had several stints in Impact Wrestling, his first being between 2014-2017 and he would then return in April 2019. His original run was actually Shera’s debut into the wrestling industry, he was very green however showed a lot of promise, when he returned you could see he’d gotton a lot more experience.
While Shera has remained on the Impact roster since he returned in 2019, he has split his time between Impact and Ohio Valley Wrestling. We have seen Shera in bursts of 6 months here and there, he recently returned once again and every time he does, there is even more to him in the ring.
The issue comes however when you look at Shera’s time in Impact. Overall we have seen him in Impact now for 6 years and Impact have obviously put a lot of time into him, however we still haven’t seen him put his stamp in any place in Impact. This really has to be Shera’s year or it’s going to feel like a here we go again situation.
4. Madman Fulton
Since coming into Impact in 2019, Fulton has not really had much of a direction. He debuted as part of OVE and looked like a true monster of the faction, after time however many wanted to see more from Fulton (especially in the ring) than what we were seeing in OVE. However we never sadly saw that and after the split we hoped it would lead Fulton to something new.
This did, that was to form a tag team with Ace Austin, while originally (in my opinion) this was a very strange partnership, they proved through 2019 that they were a tag team that needed to be taken seriously. This really felt like a fresh start for Fulton, however after BFG 2019, we didn’t see any more of this and once again it felt like Impact had reached a dead end.
Fulton has a lot he can offer in and out of the ring and has never really been given a shot in any way. If you’re looking at someone who Impact need to take a chance on before it’s too late, then Fulton is certainly it. He’s sadly always been “the other guy” and we’ve never got to know who Fulton is, even after 3 years he’s still someone we don’t know and that’s a real shame.
3. Chris Bey
At Slammiversary Jay White showed up and made Chris Bey an offer to join him in The Bullet Club. Since then we’ve seen Chris Bey reach new heights, become associated with the likes of G.O.D and at BFG challenge for the Impact Tag Team Titles with Hikuleo.
At No Surrender we saw Jay White and Chris Bey turn on G.O.D in their tag team title match against The Good Brothers, this lead to a new formation of Bullet Club with The Good Brothers, White and Bey. Since then however (maybe even before then), it has left Bey feeling like he needs something a little more.
Chris Bey joining the Bullet Club was a great moment and being surrounded by top level talents is doing him wonders. It feels now that Impact need to take his story to the next level though, with the Brothers losing the tag titles, it’s surprising that Bey has been nowhere near the X Division Title. Hopefully we see impact strike with Bey before he becomes “just another member” of The Bullet Club.
2. Decay (Crazzy Steve & Black Taurus)
One of Impact Wrestling’s most loved factions from recent years is Decay. Originally formed in 2016 and consisting of Rosemary, Crazzy Steve and Abyss, they would go on to have fantastic feuds with The Wolves, The Broken Hardy’s and The Helms Dynasty. With their amazing character work, The Decay truly touched the hearts of everyone in the Impact fan base.
In 2021 we saw Crazzy Steve return to Impact Wrestling to rejoin with Rosemary (Abyss departed for WWE in 2019 and still remains their). Having the original duo of Steve and Rosemary back together was beautiful, they just needed a new monster. In February we saw Black Taurus enter Decay from AAA, the new trio of Decay was now set. Over the next few months Decay got some nice momentum and then added Havok into their ranks also.
Looking at how the group Decay looks now you have two teams within the unit, Steve and Taurus on the mens side, then Havok and Rosemary on the Knockouts side (obviously they can still wrestle in singles action too). The knockouts team have been booked very well, however Steve and Taurus have not. Every time you see them in the ring now, you know they will loose. You heard the crowd reaction when Steve lost on BTI last week. Decay are so over, however if Impact continues to book them like this, you have to wonder how much longer they will remain an over faction?
1. Ace Austin
Back in 2020 Ace Austin really felt like he was on a great run, he had been with the company for a year and dominated the X Division as well as proved how diverse he could be in any feud. At Slammiverary 2020 we saw him in the world title picture, however he came up short with Eddie Edwards coming out victorious.
Ace would spend the rest of the year in the tag division with Fulton and again, it looked like him and Fulton could very easily be our next tag champions, but it was not to be. At the beginning of 2021 we saw Ace return to the X Division and win the Super X Cup, he would then go on to win the X Division title for a second time.
While Ace has always Excelled in the X Division, it’s a case of always being stuck in one place. Ace has proved he can hang in the tag division and even in the main event, but he keeps getting pulled back into the X Division. We’ve seen in the past with wrestlers like James Storm who could never escape the tag team division, hopefully Impact can move Ace on from the X Division and on to something new before it’s too late.
