WWE Summerslam has now come and gone and the first HHH main roster Premium Event is in the books. What I am going to do is give you my honest thoughts about the event whether good or bad. One thing I’ve always prided myself on is being brutally honest regarding the consequence and for my love for wrestling I might be the most brutal honest in that regard. Here is what I thought about each match at Summerslam and why.
WWE Raw Women’s Championship: (c) Bianca Belar vs Becky Lynch
These two women are amazing. This match was another classic in this great rivalry. I wanted Bianca to hit the KOD and win in 8 seconds since they let Becky do that to her last year but this was much much better. The chemistry and obvious respect these women have for each other is clear and as sad as I am to see this feud over after the match you see a returning Bayley and a resigned Dakota Kai and Io Sky and it just makes you excited for whats coming next. This is the most excited I’ve been about the women’s division in some time. Dakota and Io are amazing talents and are huge additions to the main roster. Becky shaking Bianca’s hand and rightfully going back babyface is something that has needed to happen for a while as Becky is not a heel. She’s way too loved by the fans. I’m expecting some matches where Bianca and Becky may have to team up in the future but as far as Summerslam goes add another classic in the folder under Bianca Belair vs Becky Lynch.
Logan Paul vs The Miz
Logan Paul, as much crap as people give him, is made for WWE. I don’t think Paul is a babyface in WWE by any means but this dude has what it takes to make it. Imagine how much better he is going to be in ring now that he is full time. Miz gets credit too because anyone he gets in the ring with he can make them look like a million bucks. Miz is one of the most valuable people in all of wrestling. Ciampa and Styles going at it when Ciampa refused to leave after being ejected from ringside was a nice touch. I am all for a Ciampa and AJ Styles feud by the way. Good match which showcased Paul’s strengths. I’m eager to see what the future holds for Logan Paul going forward and who they have him feud with next.
USA Championship: (c) Bobby Lashley vs Theory
Good match but I’m ready for both of these men to move on. Theory having the briefcase and feuding with half the roster and Lashley starting a fresh feud for the title needs to be what they do going forward. Theory doesn’t need the belt or to be competing for it as he obviously has his eye on something bigger. Both men came out looking strong and I give WWE credit for the excellent job they have done building up Lashley. Lashley can make that USA Championship relevant again and Theory can keep feuding with damn near everyone as he chases the ultimate prize. The match was okay but I’m glad this feud is over.
No Disqualification Tag Match: The Mysterios vs The Judgment Day
Good match better ending. The return of Edge is something we all expected watching the vignettes the past month or so but man did he look badass. Brood Edge is back and whether it leads to Brood Edge vs Demon Balor or Rhea/Finn vs Beth/Edge, I’m down for both. I feel like I’ve seen this match so many times that I’m kind of over it. But for the return of Edge I was all for it. Probably the only match on the card I really didn’t care for.
Pat McAfee vs Happy Corbin
Pat McAfee is money. He is the best signing WWE has made in 5 years. Don’t @ me. The guy can talk, wrestle and do damn near anything you ask him to do. This match was entertaining as hell and showed how good both men truly are. Corbin is so underrated and deserves to have a world title run before he hangs up his boots. The dude is the definition of what a WWE superstar should be. Even with the kind of botched Panama Sunrise at the end it didn’t hinder the good quality match this really was. Good job all around in this one.
WWE Undisputed Tag Team Championship: (c) The Usos vs The Street Profits
These two teams could wrestle 100 times and I don’t think I’d ever get sick of watching them. The end of the match where Ford had the demented look on his face tells me a heel turn is probably coming for him sooner rather than later so I don’t imagine we will see these two teams go at it again but last night was another banger to add to the list. The frogsplash hit by Ford literally made me think the Usos run was over. Great action, good pace and great selling by two of the best tag teams in the game. Now maybe my pipe dream of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn being the team that knocks off the Usos can come true. Hey someones got to beat them at some point right?
WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship: (c) Liv Morgan vs Ronda Rousey
WWE did what they had to do here. You got to protect Rousey and not have her take a clean pin and you also do not want to take the title off of Liv already. The double ending made sense in that part and with Rousey beating up officials it gives WWE the chance to either “suspend” Rousey if she’s taking time off or gives them the opportunity to add another woman to the match going into Clash at the Castle that gives either Liv or Ronda someone else to pin so neither of them have to take the fall. I really don’t care for either of these women too much but this match was fine and I don’t feel like I wasted my time watching it. It was fine.
Maximum Male Models, Drew McIntyre, Michael Cole and Seth Rollins/Riddle Segments
The Maximum Male Models commercial was uncomfortably hilarious. It was so bad it was good if you know what I mean. It made me want to pour pure water all over myself. Anyways. Drew McIntyre cutting a promo in the middle of the show was fine. WWE most likely did it to remind people hey this dude is a legit threat to whomever the champ is at the end of the night. Seth Rollins stomping Riddle was a great segment that showed the resilience of Riddle and got more heat on Seth for a match that is sure to take place at Clash at the Castle. Last but not least, MICHAEL F’N COLE. Cole was a MVP of Summerslam. Without Vince in his ear Cole’s commentary was absolutely amazing especially when showing him support for Pat McAfee. I am all here for Michael Cole unplugged. I can’t wait for the inevitable Pat McAfee vs Corey Graves match (Survivor Series?) just to hear Michael Cole’s commentary. All these segments were solid and added to the show in a positive way.
WWE Undisputed Championship Last Man Standing Match: (c) Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar
Epic. I mean what else can you say. These two have fought it feels like 50 times and barely anyone was looking forward to this match but did this match ever deliver. Brock with the tractor was amazing and Roman getting up from everything Brock hit him with just showed how legendary Roman Reigns and his title reign really are. Brock looked strong in this as well as it took legit every underhanded trick for Roman to win. Theory attempting to cash in was a good throw in but it is WAY too early for Theory to be champion. The ring being picked up by the tractor is honestly one of those moments that will forever be linked to the “Triple H Era” but damn was it an entertaining spot and addition to the match. For all the complaining I have done about these two fighting for so long I do want to thank them because I won’t soon forget this epic clash. Thank you Brock and thank you Roman but please never fight again.
