3. Good Dreams or “Bad Booking”?

To ensure The Good Brothers don’t get involved in Moose vs. Omega, Scott D’More had also set up a tag match between The Good Brothers vs. Sami Callihan & a partner of his choosing. When Tommy Dreamer stepped forward along with the expected, heads in hands, shaking side to side in frustration with such an (apparently) anticlimactic decision. But, I’m always happy to see Tommy Dreamer, he might not have been the first choice for this match either, looking back over the build between Moose & Omega there has been a lot of back & forth between Eddie Edwards & Sami Callihan to Moose, Scott D’Amore & each other but after the last session of tapings (leading up to Against All Odds), Eddie Edwards would undergo an appendix operation & he is currently scheduled to be out of action for at least 2 to 4 months (average time away from an appendix operation laying just over 3 months, he’ll be back, 100% before Bound For Glory)… So with Eddie Edwards being unavailable there’s a very high chance that unless Eddie was heading to the ring with Kojima vs. Joe Doering this Saturday, Tommy Dreamer wasn’t Impact’s first choice to be on Sami’s side, but Dreamer was the best guy available or willing to step up.

Regardless, Dreamer put his reasons for reluctantly wanting to team with Sami Callihan clear… The Good Brothers aren’t showing loyalty, Kenny Omega isn’t showing respect to the companies he’s representing (AEW as well as Impact) & as reluctant as Scott D’Amore is to say it, “Don Callis is the enemy” of Impact Wrestling. Sami Callihan obviously agreed to team with Dreamer with a warning that failure will have serious consequences & the stipulation of No Disqualification has now been added to make this match an interesting but to a few, slightly underwhelming or unnecessary match to have (simply because Tommy Dreamer is there once again).

My personal opinion about this match? I’m excited for it, I’d rather have seen someone familiar being used over rushing in incoming talent or someone else outside the company (which given the current circumstances is hard to do without a lot of preparation). Tommy Dreamer teaming alongside Sami Callihan is a pretty historical moment (they’ve never worked together as a tag team) & alongside Eddie Edwards or Rich Swann, nobody knows how to work with Sami better than Tommy Dreamer. So if this was an intentional or last resort choice for Dreamer to return this match is the right match to start. It’s not “bad booking” when Tommy Dreamer stepped away from the ring he stated it was very difficult for him to get that buzz from competition without fans in attendance & it would take something big to push him back into the ring. Well, what’s bigger than stopping a turncoat like Don Callis from keeping his own company’s World Title out of it’s home? This return was inevitable!

This is also clearly building onto the departure of Don Callis. After Sami walked away Scott D’Amore reminded Tommy that Don Callis is still an EVP (executive vice-president) & could fire him for calling him an “enemy of the company”. Who do I think is going to win? I’m leaning towards The Good Brothers (no DQ, who else has Don got ready to raise hell?) And Tommy Dreamer making a comeback doesn’t guarantee he’s going to win. But, now that Sami Callihan is headlining Slammiversary, he needs as much momentum behind him in order to beat Kenny Omega (or Moose) so my vote goes over to Tommy Dreamer & Sami Callihan for the win.
