WWE Friday Night Smackdown Results – August 20th, 2021
Edge kicks off the show and cuts a promo on Seth Rollins that how he tried to end his career back in 2014. Edge tells that he knows how to play mind games. He tells Rollins that he don’t want to go back to his dark side because he knows that he will never be able to comeback from that side. Edge says that at SummerSlam he is going to Burn Seth Down. Awesome promo with lot of intensity.
Rey Mysterio w/Dominik Vs. Jimmy Uso w/Jey Uso
Mysterio lands a few strikes. Jey floors Mysterio with a right hand. Jey runs into a back elbow by Mysterio. Mysterio hops on Jey’s shoulders and lands a flurry of punches to his head. Mysterio and Jey fall over the top rope. Mysterio hits an Asai moonsault onto both Usos. After the break, Jey works over Mysterio.
Mysterio surprises Jey with a flying senton. Mysterio gets picked out of the air by Jey. Jey sets up a slam but Mysterio turns it into a DDT. Jey kicks out. Dominik tries to help Mysterio as he is pinning Jey. The referee catches Dominik trying to cheat. The referee tells Dominik to leave. Mysterio argues with Dominik. Jimmy and Jey attack them both from behind. Jey sends Mysterio back into the ring and hits the Uso Splash for the win.
Winner- Jey Uso
Baron Corbin walks to the ring clutching the Money in the Bank briefcase.
Baron Corbin vs. Kevin Owens
Corbin lands a few strikes. Owens sends Corbin out of the ring. Owens lands a senton off the apron. Corbin tries a chokeslam. Owens escapes. Owens almost hits a Stunner but Corbin pushes Owens away. Corbin rolls out of the ring. Big E’s music hits. Big E power walks to the ring. Corbin and Big E run towards the briefcase. Big E clocks Corbin and takes back the briefcase. The referee calls for the bell. Owens has been disqualified. Corbin pushes Big E into the ring post. Corbin takes the briefcase and runs away.
Winner by DQ – Baron Corbin
Backstage, Bianca Belair tells Kayla not to even say Sasha Banks’ name. Belair is going to show Banks what’s going to happen her tomorrow, tonight when she takes out Zelina Vaga and Carmella.
Shotzi and Nox vs. Natalya and Tamina
Natalya beats down Shotzi. Nox is knocked off the apron. Natalya works over Shotzi. Nox surprises Tamina with a splash off the apron. Natalya tries to lock Shotzi in the Sharpshooter. Shotzi rolls Natalya up and gets a three count.
Winner- Shotzi
Rollins says Edge came out here and used every excuse in the book to explain why he’s going to lose tomorrow. Rollins mocks Edge’s comments about having to go to the darkest place. Rollins says there is no shame in Edge’s shortcomings. The crowd screams for Edge. Rollins screeches at the crowd that they have already heard from Edge and now they are going to listen to me. Rollins adds that there is no shame in Edge not being able to get back to that dark place because either way, Edge isn’t on his level.
The lights go out and fire is set in the arena. The Brood theme plays. Edge appears on the ‘Tron. With a devilish grin, Edge tells Rollins that he’ll never see it coming. A black substance rains from above the ring. Edge pulled off a classic Brood bloodbath. When the light comes back up, Rollins is covered in black stuff. Rollins’ crispy white suit is completely destroyed. Rollins lets out a long string of expletives that is muted by whoever is in the truck. Booo Truck person… Boo.
Otis w/Chad Gable vs. Montez Ford w/Angelo Dawkins
Ford is wearing new gear and he has his fist taped. Ford slaps Otis in the face twice. Ford lands two nasty clotheslines but Otis doesn’t budge. Ford hits the ropes and runs right into a spinning back elbow from Otis. Ford flips out of a back suplex from Otis. ford lands a few strikes. Ford gets sent out to the apron. Gable tries to get involved but Dawkins pounces Gable so hard he ends up in the ring. Ford lands a huge crossbody. Otis kicks out with authority. Otis runs over Ford and hits the Vader Bomb for the win.

King Nakamura and Rick Boogs vs. Apollo Crews and Commander Azeez
Boogs takes Crews down. Boogs plays Crews leg like a guitar. Boogs deadlift gut wrenches Crews. Boogs swings Crews around like a small child before releases the suplex. Azeez and Nakamura tag in. Nakamura lands a few strikes. Nakamura hits a flying knee off the second rope. Azeez kicks out. Nakamura calls for the Kinshasa. Azeez reverses it into a side slam. Crews tags in and eats a spin kick. Boogs tags in and hits a pump handle into a powerslam on Crews for the win.
Winners- King Nakamura and Rick Boogs
After the break, Carmella and Zelina Vega make their way to the ring. Carmella and Vega try to decide who will take on Belair first. Carmella tosses Vega in the ring.
Bianca Belair vs. Zelina Vega
Belair tosses Vega all over the ring. Vega hits the Code Red. Belair kicks out at 2.9. Seriously, I’m not sure she actually kicked out on time. Vega gets plucked out of the air and hit with a powerbomb. Belair hits the KOD for the win.

After the match, Carmella superkicks Belair twice.
Carmella vs. Bianca Belair
Carmella works over Belair. Belair deadlifts Carmella into a delayed verticle suplex. Belair his a handspring splash for a near fall. Belair lands the KOD for the win.

John Cena/Roman Reigns Face-to-Face
Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman saunter to the ring. Before Reigns can do anything John Cena’s music hits. Cena runs down to the ring and grabs a mic. The crowd is going nuts. Reigns tries to talk but the crowd drowns him out with boos. Reigns says a lot of people say a lot of stupid things and that’s exactly what Cena did last week. Reigns says he likes that the crowd is excited. It’s great! Reigns says he isn’t going to let Cena lie to the WWE Universe though. Cena thinks he can pin Reigns.
Reigns laughs. Reigns asks Heyman how many times he’s lost. Heyman says no one has EVER beaten THIS Roman Reigns. Cena says he believes the impossible is possible. Cena says Reigns has no idea what he’s in for tomorrow night at SummerSlam. Cena says Reigns doesn’t get it. Cena is going to take the title, go do movies, while Reigns has to sit here as an absolute failure. Cena says it’s just gonna take 1, 2, 3. Cena says it’s been written on the wall, Reigns just can’t see it. Cena isn’t here to promote movies, he’s here to demote Reigns’ ass. At SummerSlam, 1,2,3 means Cena breaks the world championship record when he wins 17. There isn’t going to be a Universal Champion here until WrestleMania because of Reigns.
It’s over for Reigns. Reigns says Cena is the one who doesn’t get it. Reigns says when he gets in the ring and smashes someone WWE no longer has a use for them. Cena is no different. Reigns says SummerSlam is in Vegas, so let’s raise the stakes. Reigns says if he doesn’t retain, he will leave WWE. Cena and Reigns shake hands. Reigns tries a cheap shot but Cena schoolboys Reigns and holds him down for a three count! Cena rolls out of the ring. Reigns looks terrified.
