Remembering The Iron Sheik:

We join the wrestling community as everyone mourns the loss of ” The Iron Sheik who died Wednesday, June 7th, at age 81!!!

He was born Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri in Tehran, Iran on March 15th, 1942. Vaziri embraced amateur wrestling from an early age. This generational prodigy departed his native Iran & during the late 1960s, emigrated to the United States. The Iron Sheik would become an assistant coach for the U.S. Olympic team in two teams, 1970 & 1971. He won a Gold Medal at the National Athletic Amateur Championships. Later, this WWE Hall of Famer enjoyed great success after transitioning from a good-guy persona into an anti-American villain. Other than competing for WWF (World Wrestling Federation), his career included stints wrestling in numerous territories.

Notable accomplishments entail: debuting for WWF & winning the inaugural Battle Royal emanating from Madison Square Garden-New York City. He defeated Champion Bob Backlund later that same evening with notable feuds opposite Bruno Sammartino, Bob Backlund again being crowned WWF Champion. Pat Patterson, Chief Strongbow, & Tito Santana challenged him. The Iron Sheik then lost the title to Hulk Hogan circa 1984. He & Nikolai Volkoff/ managed by ” Classy ” Freddie Blassie, had defeated the U.S. Express ( Barry Windham & Mike Rotunda) via WrestleMania I. Fans remember his wars versus Sgt. Slaughter featuring a ” Boot Camp Rules Match!!! “

Verne Gagne trained Iron Sheik debuted-1972. Ric Flair, Ken Patera, and Slaughter were among other famed Gagne pupils learning in that same class. The Iron Shiek gained popularity wrestling in these celebrated promotions comprising Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling and Georgia Championship Wrestling, where he encountered Dusty Rhodes, Tommy Rich, & more, AWA, & Mid-South.

Achievements; CWA Heavyweight Champion, NWA Mid-Atlantic Champion, WWF Champion & Tag Team Champion. He induction came into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005. Iron Shiek dominated by utilizing that signature Camel Clutch finishing move.

The Iron Sheik created hilarity via his Twitter page. His feud continued against Hulk Hogan with entertaining tweets that purposely took shots at The Hulkster. F-k the Hulk Hogan!!!

On behalf of our team at WB, RIP ” The Iron Sheik-1942-2023!!! โ€œ We send condolences to his family, friends, & fans.

1-Bloodline Turmoil (Jimmy costs Jey, Usos vs. Roman & Solo at MITB)

The WWE Universe witnessed Solo Sikoa align with Roman Reigns after turning against his brother Jimmy on last week’s SmackDown. This week’s edition saw Jey Uso confront Solo and Paul Heyman. Heyman explained that Jimmy was at fault for Jey being emotionally distraught. The Wise man placed the blame on Jimmy. Roman wants to groom Jey as the next Tribal Chief. Heyman says it’s jealousy regarding Jimmy’s actions.

Jey challenged United States Champion Austin Theory. Previously, Reigns informed his cousin Jey has a choice to make. Jimmy looked to assist Jey by beating up Pretty Deadly. Solo blindsides Jimmy & Jimmy accidentally superkicks Jey costing him the match. Jey leaves Jimmy by himself. It looks as if WWE is to extend Reigns’ Undisputed WWE Universal Championship run by featuring him in tag-team matches and likely getting The Uso’s vs. Roman & Solo at Money in the Bank or SummerSlam via Xero News.

2-Charlotte vs. Asuka/ A Women’s Tag Team Unification Match

WWE official Adam Pearce said they would be unveiling a new WWE Women’s Championship circa Friday Night on SmackDown. He introduces Raw Women’s Champion Asuka. 14-time Champion Charlotte Flair interrupted the presentation. Flair isn’t waiting in line & she made it. Charlotte respects Asuka but wants that title. The Queen challenges The Empress of Tomorrow. Asuka attempted to mist Flair until Charlotte responded with a big boot.

Kayla Braxton introduced NXT Women’s Champions Alba Fyre & Isla, Dawn. WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler interrupt. Shayna said She’s the reason why NXT created those titles. Ronda states they’ve been running thru the division so fast. Alba & Isla accept a title vs. title unification match between the two teams. Each tandem begins fighting as Fyre & Dawn look strong.

3-Cody vs. Brock III-Special Stipulation

WON reported news regarding a special stipulation for a planned match for SummerSlam.

Here’s a quote, ” Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar III will be one of the SummerSlam main events.

There has been a lot of talk about adding a stipulation & one of the ideas is a bull rope match. “

So we have figured another chapter needs to occur when discussing Rhodes’s third encounter against Brock.

4-CM Punk Faces historic rival Samoa Joe ( AEW Collision)

WB desired to compose the historical context by examining two ROH stalwarts & Saturday at AEW Collision. These noted rivals ignite their rivalry as CM Punk aligns with AEW Tag Team Champions FTR opposing Ring of Honor TV Champion Samoa Joe, The Switchblade Jay White & Juice Robinson in a 6-Man tag team Main Event when they collide on June 17th, from Chicago’s United Center.

In 2004-Joe versus Punk remained a phenomenon for wrestling fans scouting alternatives that rivaled mainstream. A purer form containing this youthful rebellion generated immense followings. Men who redefined yet brought the tradition back into the industry. ” The Show in Dayton ” created new enthusiasm when Punk challenged Champion Joe! The time limit draw had left people wondering if the conclusion would differ. Then came “Joe vs. Punk II ” circa Chicago Ridge, IL. Again it ended after going 60 minutes. Elizabeth, New Jersey, became home to a third encounter via ROH All-Star Extravaganza Show!!! Samoa Joe faced off versus CM Punk for a third time. Joe finally defeated Punk. I realize it’s not a singles contest, but still, the nostalgic history is evident as Punk & Joe meet in AEW and back on TNT.

5-The Motor City Machine Guns are both Champions in Impact Wrestling

Chris Sabin became a 9-time Impact X-Division champion after dethroning Trey Miguel at Impacts Against All Odds pay-per-view. Alex Shelley wins Impact Wrestling World Championship also via All Odds. Shelley ended Steve Macklin’s Title reign on Friday night.

The Motor City Machine Guns are 3-time TNA/ Impact World Tag Team Champions, TNA/Impact X Division Champs-Sabin with 2 & Shelley has 1. There are one-time Ring of Honor World Tag Team Champions. Congrats to them both on winning gold.

It concludes another episode & please like, follow, & subscribe to Wrestlebuddy.com.

Until next time, goodbye to you all.
