The NXT Repört/ July 13th, 2021: The NXT Title Is On The Line, Tonight!
What a week for NXT. After last Tuesday’s Great American Bash we saw a few call-ups including my Filthy Filipino Shotzi Blackheart and Tegan Nox.
We also will see the start of the NXT Breakout Tourney which will introduce some new stars.
We start off tonight with a memorial intro for Paul Orndorff aka Mr. Wonderful who passed away Monday.
BTW my internet is acting dumb so my coverage may spotty.
Ember Moon vs. Dakota Kai w/Raquel González
These two rivals face off and there is no love lost.
Moon starts off with the momentum but Kai gets the upper hand and some near falls.
We go to a word from our sponsors with Ember in control.
-Commercial break-
Now Twitter is down. So I may not be able to add some links.
We come back from break Kai has taken control. Haven’t really seen much besides yelling from González.
Moon gets suplexed but starts Hulking Up and crossbodies Kai for a two-count.
Both Moon and Kai gain major momentum but neither can put the other away. But eventually Kai lands a modified Pele kick and pins Moon for the win.
The lights go down and Xia Li (growwwwl) marches to the ring and confronts the NXT Champ González challenging for the title.
I give the whole match a 3.05 out of five.
Cameron Grimes Butler Vignette
Grimes shows up to LA Knight’s house. The Million Dollar Champ gets a haircut and grooming. Knight is trying to degrade him and it isn’t working.
Tyler Russ vs. Bobby Fish
Russ, representing Diamond Mine looks to make a statement against an angry Fish.
Both competitors are giving each other the business with welts starting to form.
Roderick Strong stares down Fish and the distraction pays off as Russ rolls him up. Diamond Mine enters the ring and surrounds Fish but Kushida enters and runs off the faction. I give it 2.3 out of five. Just because of limited action.
Gigi Dolin vs. Sarray
Gigi’s theme sounds like Marilyn Manson’s version of “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of These)” and Sarray is a cutie patootey.
They shake hands in good sportsmanship and the two go into a fast paced stalemate.
Randomly Mandy Rose shows up 🤷🏻♂️.
Sarray puts Dolin into a submission but she escapes it. The two then trade near falls.
Sarray then performs a modified suplex after kicking the shit out of the redhead to put away Gigi and stays undefeated. I give it a 2.6 out of five.
Dexter Lumis vs. Santos Escobar
Santos comes out with his Legado Del Fantasmo stable.
Apparently Lumis doesn’t talk much.
Escobar goes after this Freakazoid and no sells his moves. Lumis does his best crawling baby impression and as Escobar exits the ring Dexter attempts to pull his opponent under the ring.
We come back from break and the Mexican (I think) is in control.
The action spills outside the ring and Fantasmo interferes behind the ref’s back. Escobar hits his finisher and pins his opponent.
As Legado leaves Hit Row shows up to confront the trio.
First Round of NXT Breakout Tournament: Duke Hudson vs. Ikemen Jiro
This tourney is a one-and-done.
The fan favorite Jiro is baiting in Hudson and taunting his opponent. Hudson though gets the early momentum shift.
Jiro turns the tides with a tarantula but is caught by a belly-to-belly.
Surprisingly Hudson gets sidewalk slammed and pins the Japanese superstar. I give it a 3.69 out of five.
Women’s Tag Team Match: Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter vs. Jessica Kamea & Aliyah
I missed the match cause I had to shower but Catanzaro and Carter win. More importantly Aliyah attacks Robert Stone and I think the faction is done. She leaves the ring and her former partner Jessica behind.
Franky Monet shows up and says something to Jessi and she leaves with Monet.
NXT Championship Match: Johnny Gargano vs. Karrion Kross (C) w/ Scarlett
The main event will be reffed by Samoa Joe.
BTW half this match is gonna be taken up by Kross’ entrance. It’s not bad with Scarlett wearing her Michelle Pfiffer Catwoman outfit. She was born in 1991!? Damn, I’m a nasty old man!
Before the bell rings Gargano attacks the champ. Quickly though Kross starts to switch momentum.
The champ takes the action outside the ring and continues to dominate his opponent. Gargano though turns the tide with a shoulder slam into the stairs
-commercial break-
Before the break Gargano is slammed into the announce table.
We come back from break and Gargano and Kross are back in the ring and the challenger is hitting strikes and even gets a near fall.
Apparnetly Kross has never been beaten in singles competition.
The back and forth my god!
Gargano gets caught from behind but reverses it and puts Kross into a cross face but soon Gargano gets caught again into a submission.
He reaches for the rope in desperation and breaks it. Kross gets pissed and confronts Samoa Joe. Cooler heads prevail.
Outside the ring Kross grabs the steel steps and attempts to him Gargano but Joe stops him. As he faces off against Joe Kross gets DDT’d by Gargano. Johnny Wrestling gets a near fall but gets suplexed and slammed multiple times.
Kross gets the pin and retains but he is still losses at Joe and they face off. Kross though attacks Joe and puts him to sleep.
I feel like Kross has a receipt for that coming. A 4.1 out of five.
