During Roman Reigns current run as Universal Champion, there has been one opponent people have been looking forward to. As Head of the Table, Roman has turned his character into a guy that his family needs to be at the top. Feuding with his cousins The Uso’s, and bringing in Afa and Sika to acknowledge him as the Tribal Chief has been done masterfully as a way to tease a colossal matchup between the two most successful family members of the Samoan Dynasty. Roman Reigns versus The Rock.
The Rock has announced his retirement from wrestling but as we all know, that means very little in the world of professional wrestling. This storyline has easily been the best thing in all of wrestling for over a year now and would no doubt be one of the best main events in Wrestlemania history if it were to happen.
Recently, during an interview with ComicBook.com during press for his upcoming film Red Notice which will be released on Netflix, The Rock had this to say about a potential return to the ring:
“I don’t know if I have another title run, considering I’m the People’s Champion, but I don’t know if it’s another title run. I think possibly, you know, there might be another match down the road. It would have to make sense.”
It would have to make sense? I don’t think anyone would disagree that a match between the two doesn’t make sense at this point. The Rock even agrees with that sentiment to an extent with this next qoute:
“It seems like Roman, you know, I’m very close with Roman obviously, and we talk about this all the time, and I continue to encourage him to keep doing your thing, keep sharpening those skills,” Johnson said. “I think he’s doing a great job with his promo, his execution, his in-ring work. It all continues to improve and grow. And that’s always the best part, I think, about that world of professional wrestling is that when someone gets anointed and given the ball to run, they either score a touchdown with it or they don’t. But then some, not only score a touchdown with it, but then they begin to change the way the game is played. And in Roman’s case, he’s slowly doing that, and you could start to read the tea leaves. And again, I’m very, very proud of him. I like everything that he’s doing. I like everything that the Usos are doing. I like what they’re doing together, and we’ll see down the road.”
The Rock likes what Roman is doing, as we all do. It ties in to the family and as a man that has never had issue doing the job for the betterment of professional wrestling, one would have to believe that The Rock is almost guaranteed at this point to come in and give the “rub” to Roman.
