03. WWE Backlash 2016

WWE Backlash made his return back in 2016 after 7 years absence and it was an absolute spectacular return. 2016 considered as one of the best years in the modern era. Backlash 2016 was an all exclusive Smackdown brand PPV and whatever WWE promised, they delivered it perfectly.

The main event was between Dean Ambrose and AJ Styles for the WWE Championship and we saw something that nobody ever expected, we saw AJ Styles became the WWE Champion in the same year he debuted. Becky Lynch became the inaugural Smackdown Women’s Champion by eliminating Carmella.

Rhyno & Heath Slater became the inaugural Smackdown Tag Team Champions and the crowd went nuts. It was one of the biggest pops of the year. The Miz retained his IC title against Dolph Ziggler in an instant classic.

After the spectacular return of this PPV, the quality of this event just derailed in the coming years, that’s why there are no mentions are available of Backlash 2017, 2018 and 2020.
