13. Scotty Anton – The Network
During ECW’s dying days, one of the bigger storylines of the promotion saw that of The Network’s takeover of NXT. Led by the evil TNN representative Cyrus The Virus (Don Callis), they tried to enforce a more specific brand to go against the always gritty, hardcore Extreme Championship Wrestling. The band of baddies featured many underrated stars such Rhino, Yoshihiro Tajiri and Steve Corino, garnering 3 ECW World title reigns and 3 ECW TV title reigns – proving to be a successful unit.
A forgotten member in all this was Scotty Anton. The former Scotty Riggs, he had previously worked in WCW as a member of both Raven’s Flock and American Males. He debuted in ECW as an ally of Rob Van Dam’s but turned on him at Hardcore Heaven 2000 allowing Jerry Lynn to defeat ‘Mr Friday Night’, ending RVD’s 2 year undefeated streak. A hired gun of The Network, he lost to Dam in a decent bout at Heatwave, falling victim to the Van Terminator.
Anton spent most of his time on live events, barely ever getting a televised win but losing to bigger ECW names. Anton wrestled just over 20 matches in all, leaving the promotion before the end of the year.
