Ladies and gentleman, I start you off with a spoiler not a prediction. Gunther will defeat Sheamus at Clash at the Castle in most likely the match that will steal the show. Gunther now that Triple H is in charge is a guy that is thriving now on the main roster. The reports that Vince wanted to bury him after that R Truth segment mad me extremely mad. Vince had completely lost touch but that’s a whole different conversation. Anyways. Gunther has had a great run this far as IC Champion and it made me think whats next for him after the Clash? Well, I’m going to give up the top 5 best opponents for Gunther following the Premium Event. Ready? Me too, lets go. Note to fans, I’m using the Smackdown roster only for this. I know they have been ignoring the brand split but I refuse to.
5. Kofi Kingston
Flashy? No. Is it something you all are reading right now and your thinking “Man this would be great?” No. But if you think about it, it makes perfect sense. Kofi is a established veteran that would put another feather on the main roster in Gunther’s cap. The matches would be good and WWE has failed to book The New Day well lately so why not use Kofi to further elevate Gunther? They should. It won’t create headlines but it would be a solid feud for Gunther and his rise up the Smackdown roster.
4. Madcap Moss
It’s the old saying “You don’t got to go over to get over.” That’s exactly what a feud like this could do for Madcap Moss. Also, lets lose the Madcap name and go back to calling him Riddick Moss please? Thank you. Moss is a cornerstone in WWE’s future and needs to be used on TV weekly to get himself over with the audience and that’s exactly what Gunther can do for him. Moss showing heart surviving the bone shaking chops and fighting until the very end can show Moss has heart and get him over without him actually taking the championship. Sometimes winning isn’t everything and that would be the case with this feud.
3. Happy Corbin
Not the sexiest name here either but another worker that is a trusted hand and would have some good matches with Gunther. Corbin, in my opinion, is one of the most underrated workers in professional wrestling and I think he can have a good match or feud with damn near anybody. This wouldn’t be a feud that would have fans freaking out but it would be effective none the less. Corbin is the perfect guy for this spot and would be a formidable opponent for Gunther leading into Hell in a Cell.
2. Drew McIntyre
Yeah I don’t have Drew beating Roman. I just need to see Roman lose before I can believe it and I don’t think Drew should be the one to do so anyway. But that’s a topic for another day. Drew would be one of the ultimate opponents for Gunther. Having losing out on the Undisputed Championship McIntyre going for the IC belt shows how much it’s valued and having a guy the caliber of Drew chasing it just raises the prestige. Drew vs Gunther is a match that will happen one day and I would love to see and it would make sense to have this feud after Clash. Think about it.
1. Pete Dunne (NOT BUTCH)
Perfection. Think about it. Gunther beats Sheamus. He’s standing there holding up his championship and boom “The Bruiserweight” Pete Dunne’s music hit. NOT BUTCH!!! PETE MF’N DUNNE!!!!!!!! A classic feud in NXT UK comes to the main roster and these matches between these two men would be classics and steal any show they were on. Since Triple H had his hand in working with both these men it just makes it make so much more since. Plus Dunne needs to get out of the Sheamus group. Dunne can stand on his own and it’s about damn time he did. This is the perfect way to do so. Absolute perfection.
