Since this is the first article I have written for Wrestle Buddy, I figured I would share how I got into wrestling. I wish I could say I was a lifelong fan, like my co-host on the Pipe Bomb Wrestling Podcast, Chris Belcher, but my love for wrestling blossomed a lot later in life. The year was 2009, and I was surfing the channels as a 12-year-old kid when I came across the Undertaker’s entrance. I was shocked and confused, but mainly I was intrigued. I finished watching the show and couldn’t wait to watch the next week. From that point on, wrestling has become a major part of my life.

The Royal Rumble is by far my favorite premium live event of the year. This year is no different. After the lackluster and disappointing Royal Rumble last year, this year, I’m expecting a complete 180 from Triple H. The countless number of surprise returns, Bray Wyatt’s first match back in the company, and the fact that we don’t really have a clear winner for both Royal Rumbles. In this article, I’m going to give the top 5 most likely participants who could win the men’s Royal Rumble.

Honorable Mention: Sheamus

Every list needs an honorable mention, and this list is no different. There is a long list of people who could fit this spot, but to me, only one sticks out the most. Sheamus had a spectacular 2022, and a great way to capitalize on it would be to win the Royal Rumble for a second time. The likelihood of this happening is very low. Still, the prospect of Sheamus main-eventing WrestleMania with Roman Reigns is very intriguing and be a great way to cap an amazing career.

Honorable Mention: Stone Cold Steve Austin

Look, I know this is a big stretch. But after the recent reports that Stone Cold is interested in having a big money match with Roman Reigns, this isn’t out of the realm of possibility. We never thought Stone Cold would get back in the ring, but after having an amazing showing against Kevin Owens at last year’s WrestleMania, who is to say that the Texas rattlesnake doesn’t have one more in him? If  The Rock is out of WrestleMania, the next best attitude-era star to put the tribal chief over is Stone Cold. I don’t think this will happen, but this is the beauty of the Royal Rumble.

Honorable Mention: Nick Aldis

Another pick that comes out of nowhere, Nick Aldis is a perfect fit for WWE under Triple H. After leaving the NWA, many people began to speculate about where Aldis would land. It was clear that he was either going to AEW or WWE, but right now is the perfect storm for Nick Aldis to join WWE and become a major player. Just like AJ Styles made his amazing debut in the 2016 Rumble, watch out for Nick Aldis to take the same path and become a future WWE Champion.

5. Drew McIntyre

Now we are in the main portion of this article, and you can’t start anywhere else than the Scottish Warrior Drew McIntyre. After his heartbreaking loss to Roman Reigns at Clash at the Castle, Drew is due for a big-time win. Much like some others on this list, Drew isn’t the obvious choice, but the story is always there with Roman. The rematch is there, and the story is far from over between the two men. While I don’t think this is the likely choice, Drew McIntyre deserves to have his WrestleMania moment in front of a live crowd. Drew carried the company through the pandemic era and deserved to have his moment in the spotlight. So don’t be shocked if Drew McIntyre is in the final four and ends up winning the whole thing.

4. Seth Rollins

The biggest babyface on Monday Night Raw might be due to the final main event, WrestleMania. Seth Rollins definitely has some unfinished business with Roman Reigns, especially after technically beating the tribal chief at last year’s Royal Rumble. So, does Seth have a chance to win? Personally, I believe he does. Two of the three members of one of the greatest factions of all time main eventing WrestleMania seems too good to pass up. The reason why Seth is only in the 4th spot on this list is that there are some others who are being built up as the front runners, but just like Drew, don’t be shocked when Seth Rollins is in the final 4, or even the last one eliminated.

3. Sami Zayn

How could Sami Zayn not be on this list? The best storyline in years has elevated Sami from being a mid-carder losing to Jonny Knoxville at WrestleMania to possibly main eventing WrestleMania a year later with Roman Reigns. The fan favorite more than likely won’t even be in the Rumble, but if he is, he will have the entire Alamo Dome and everyone watching at home, cheering for the Honorary Uce to win the Royal Rumble. We could potentially be looking at another Daniel Bryan situation if Triple H and creative don’t handle it carefully. The Royal Rumble could be the greatest accomplishment of Sami Zayn’s career or the night we remember the end of the Honorary Uce in the Bloodline.

2. The Rock

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson comes in at #2 on this list. The Great One could make his long-awaited return to the WWE to finally answer the question, who truly is the head of the table? I firmly believe that The Rock will show up in some capacity at the Rumble. He could show up after Roman Reigns vs. Kevin Owens, but the best-case scenario would be in the Rumble itself. The dream match we’ve been waiting for a while now could finally be happening at this year’s WrestleMania. Fans will be on the edge of their seats during the Rumble, waiting to hear that iconic music hit and watch the most electrifying man in all of sports entertainment pick up right where he left off.

1. Cody Rhodes

Sometimes the obvious choice is obvious for a reason. Cody Rhodes is absolutely the best choice to win the Royal Rumble this year. After making his way back to WWE at last year’s WrestleMania, Cody Rhodes made it crystal clear why he returned home. He was going to win the championship that his father had never won. In his return, he put on 3 matches of the year candidates with Seth Rollins before being sidelined with an unfortunate injury. The American Nightmare has already announced that he is making his return to the Royal Rumble this Saturday. The question isn’t whether Cody will win, but the question is what number Cody will win from. I wouldn’t be surprised if Cody entered in the first 5 spots and went all the way to the end to win the Royal Rumble by eliminating Seth Rollins.
