Top 50 Greatest Wrestling Heels of all time
49. Don Muraco
‘Magnificent’ Don Muraco was one of the company’s most consistent heels from the early-mid 80s although not so recognized today.
In the early 80s, he feuded with the likes of Pedro Morales, Tito Santana and Bob Backlund, in this time often fighting in the Intercontinental and WWE title picture. Giving value to the still relatively new IC title, his manager alliances with The Grand Wizard and ‘Captain’ Lou Albano were top-drawing programmes in a time where the company were picking up steam. Around this time, Jimmy Snuka jumped off the top of a steel cage in Madison Square Garden onto Muraco in a match watched on by future wrestler (and candidate for this list) Mick Foley. In the mid-80s, Muraco feuded with Hulk Hogan for the WWF title, feuded with Ricky Steamboat, created the famous Fuji Vice skits and performed at WrestleMania 2 and 3’s opener – the latter in front of nearly 100,000 fans.
After touring AJPW, the UWF and Stampede Wrestling amongst others, he finally landed in NWA’s Eastern Championship Wrestling. He was a 2-time ECW champion in this role as a member of Paul E Dangerously’s villainous Dangerous Alliance stable that dominated early ECW (no relation to WCW’s Dangerous Alliance).
