Making it big in the 40s, previously wrestling was a sport of tough shooters until the detestable George came along with a revolutionary gimmick. With a large robe, being sprayed with fragrance, ‘Pomp and Circumstance’ as his theme, adorned with flowers and with flamboyant undertones, he was so reviled yet so new to audiences.

Over the decades, his work in evolving the wrestling heel has seen everyone from Rick Martel to Randy Savage to Adrian Adonis follow in his footsteps. Even a Simpsons episode has been made about his career as Abe Simpson plays the role of rule-bending heel Gorgeous Grandpa.
