Top 50 Greatest Wrestling Heels of all time
46. Shane Douglas
Originally a fresh, white-meat babyface, Doulgas made his name in 1994 when he threw down the NWA title in defiance and declared the ECW belt the real world’s title. This shocking rebellion on the National Wrestling Alliance made Douglas become one of the hottest heels in the business as he was the top star in ECW as Eastern turned to Extreme.
Soon, the company was built around him as he was the focal point of the Triple Threat faction. He left ECW a 4-time world champion and 2-time TV champion before diving to WCW where he formed The Revolution and was a member of The New Blood. He would win the Hardcore, Tag and US straps during his brief run from 1999-2001. He would continue with a multi-year run in TNA as well as XPW and MLW.
Douglas was made to be a heel, with his work as a non-extreme, traditional wrestler being a great way to gain heat from a rabid, hardcore fanbase. He put ECW on the map and anybody who can do that deserves all the admiration and respect they can get.
