Above anything, this whole show was built on the debut of the now-iconic Hell in a Cell as Shawn Michaels battered The Undertaker in a grueling number one contenders match for the WWF championship. HBK was taken to hell and back, being decimated by The Undertaker for the majority of the match, even falling from the cell through an announce table. Despite the clear odds against him, Michaels won the match, leaving the cell the victor by the skin of his teeth. He would go on to win the WWF strap at Survivor Series the next month in controversial fashion.

A legend of the industry, HBK still makes the occasional on-screen appearance today including during Ric Flair’s 70th birthday celebration, when being assaulted by a ‘Legend Killer’ Randy Orton or honoring The Undertaker at Survivor Series 2020. Michaels is a current backstage figure in NXT as a writer and producer for the show as well as teaching at the Performance Centre.

The Hell in a Cell stipulation was pretty much made for ‘The Dead Man’, with ‘Taker seeming at home in the steel surroundings. Michaels was nearly put away by The Undertaker after ‘Taker had dominated the match. Seemingly being able to put Shawn away at any point, ‘Mean’ Mark further punished Michaels. Eventually, his brother Kane made his long-awaited debut – ripping the door off its hinges and hitting his brother with the Tombstone. The arrival of this monster was enough to cost ‘Taker the match as Shawn crawled over to get the 3.

The Undertaker continued to wrestle for many years afterwards, until retiring in 2020 – having declared his WrestleMania 36 Boneyard match against AJ Styles his last. He had his official send-off ceremony at Survivor Series, 30 years after his debut. He has more recently gained traction for out-of-character moments such as his Cameo account or Joe Rogan podcast appearance.
