Rhea Ripley(c) vs Charlotte Flair
In a feud that fans will be happy to see come to an end, we are finally getting a clash between these two ladies in front of fans. In this recent feud, they have yet to recapture that in ring chemistry that they showed at last years Wrestlemania. The booking here has been confusing at times, and where as the story they were trying to tell was interesting, the execution has been downright terrible at times. Charlotte knows shes the cream of the crop in this division while at the same time being aware that Rhea is clearly the future. Charlotte isn’t ready to accept that and has been trying to show Ripley why she isn’t ready for the top spot. There has been times where Rhea has been one step ahead and is almost trying to prove herself as ready and worthy to dethrone Flair. Neither one is coming across as a babyface here and that’s where this feud is struggling the most. Why should I care Charlotte is trying to hang on when she’s using dirty tricks and heelish antics? Why should I care that Rhea is proving herself when she is mocking and using heelish antics as well?
It will be interesting to hear fan reaction to this one, and maybe that will give WWE a better vision on how to book Rhea moving forward. Over the past month, Rhea has finally started to look more comfortable on the big show as the top lady so hopefully that translates in to a good match with Flair finally. With this being the final chapter(again, hopefully) I look to seeing these ladies really lay in to each other and give the fans a brutal match that should make up for all the bad we’ve gotten up til now. Dropping the title to Charlotte would be bad for Rhea moving forward. Giving her some more time to find herself in front of fans seems to be the smarter move here but I don’t see that happening here. Rhea takes the loss here and is forced to fight her way back and re-discover herself on the journey back to the top in front of fans.
Winner: And new Women’s Champion, Charlotte Flair
Bobby Lashley(c) vs Kofi Kingston
Everyone was excited when Bobby Lashley won the title back in February. With The Hurt Business behind him, Bobby was finally at the top and deserving of a championship run. Since that win, they have done everything to make him look bad again. Taking Shelton and Cedric from him hurt his momentum. Feuding with Drew for too long did not do him any favors though. Somehow, he was able to survive all of that booking to get to now. Bobby and Kofimania 2.0 has been a fun ride. We have seen Bobby reach his boiling point with all the party antics and a return to the monster is what we are going to get Sunday. Watching Kofi get plugged in to the main event and instantly show everyone why he should have never left has been great as well. Going toe to toe with Bobby along with Xavier and being the driving force behind Bobby’s return to form has been fun to watch. Kofi seems like a legitimate challenger to Bobby here as he has recaptured some of that magic that catapulted him in to the Title win at Mania a few years ago.
There has been some underlying stories told here as MVP seems to be up to something and I could see that come in to play here in this match. With Bobby being the big bad running the Raw show, it only makes sense to have him beat down Kofi and generate heat from the fans. Too many marquee matches have been rumored for Bobby at Summerslam to think he is losing this belt, so look for him to put Kofi to sleep with the Hurt Lock.
Winner: Bobby Lashley retains.
