5. Men’s Money In The Bank 2020
2020’s Coronavirus lockdown meant that WWE had to adapt their programming with the lack of fans calling for fresh ideas. Whilst they had successes, they’ve also had their fair share of failures – the Swamp Match, all the Reginal stuff, Retribution and case in point: the Money In The Bank ladder match.
Cramming both the women’s and men’s matches together, it saw a race to the top of WWE’s headquarters to retrieve the MITB briefcase which was in a ring on the roof.
A less-great moment of the match was a weird fake Doink cameo that was just a dude in a grey shirt because real Matt Borne is dead. Also Baron Corbin became a multi-homicide maniac mid-match throwing both Aleister Black and Rey Mysterio off a roof as commentators stated both had fallen off a building in a matter-of-fact way. In addition, WWE decided not to write the two presumably dead characters off of television as they landed on another roof just a few feet below in storyline. Additionally, Asuka stopped Corbin winning the match by kicking him off a ladder for some reason even though their briefcases were separate, devoid of each other.
Furthermore, Otis won. Now Otis was one of the most popular stars at the time but AJ Styles definitely held it first until he eventually had a case of butterfingers and dropped it for Dozovic below to catch. Soon enough, WWE got bored and gave away Otis’s MITB contract, so that was worth it. Ultimately pointless, Otis would never be a world champion but at least let him do something. Either way, an ugly match with mostly nonsense that was more head-scratching than humorous. Talking of which…
