10 WORST Money In The Bank Matches
2. Women’s Money In The Bank 2017
The debut edition of the Money In The Bank concept should have been a celebration of the progression of women’s wrestling over the previous years but instead made a tone-deaf yet likely undeliberate mockery of their division to a huge amount of backlash.
After a fine match that was nothing extraordinary but a passable debut bout, the ending truly hampered the match. Carmella’s manager James Ellsworth climbed up the ladder and pulled down the contract and gifted it to ‘Mella. Yes, really. WWE implied that the best woman on their roster was a man; not just any man but a comedic jobber.
After the chinless wonder clearly displayed how he was single-handedly more talented than both Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch (he says with clear sarcasm), the outraged was sparked on the internet. Having had a man win the first women’s match, it reflected so badly on the company’s views they had to do a rematch on the next SmackDown which had an obvious result as Carmella again triumphed.
Despite their re-run of the match, it could not wash the bitter taste out of fans’ mouths as WWE had made an error that was likely not supposed to be offensive or stupid but just made them look very, very bad. Just bad.
