The NXT Repört: June 29th, 2021
Do we have a doozie tonight. New factions, tag titles on the line and the road to The Great American Bash revs up. Plus I don’t know what I’m having for dinner. So stay tuned, jabronis.
Triple Threat Match for the #1 contenders for the Women’s Tag Titles: Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon vs. Zoey Stark & Io Shirai vs. Dakota Kai & Raquel González
Wowwee Zowee! What a matchup. My bae Blackheart and Ember Moon look to become the first two-time tag champs. But it won’t be easy.
Io, González and Moon start off with the NXT champ dominating the early going.
Moon tags in Shotzi and she attempts the first near fall. The action though spills outside the ring and Shirai, Moon, Stark and Blackheart all dive outside the ring and take out the remaining competition.
-commercial break-
We come back and González is cleaning house. But we get a line change with Kai, Stark and Moon.
All hell breaks loose and González turns the tide as Kai gets overwhelmed.
The match then goes into a free-for-all as each woman takes out each other. But alas Shirai moonsaults onto Jai to get the pin and win.
Good match. Not perfect but fun. I give it 3.98 ballpits out of five.
We have backstage shenanigans with Karrion Kross getting attacked by Johnny Gargano and Bronson Reed being confronted by Isaiah “Swerve” Scott and his faction.
Kross and Scarlett come to the ring and he dares Gargano to come to the ring. He does but Austin Theory attacks the champ from behind but to no avail. The champ then slams Gargano like I slam back Labbatt’s and finally Samoa Joe and his security comes out to break it up.
Roderick Strong vs. Asher Hale
Strong and his new faction Diamond Mine make their debut together.
The new Roderick Strong comes out aggressively and grapples the hell out of Hale.
In undramatic fashion Strong submits Asher Hale. Malcolm Bivens proclaims that the Diamond Mind is “open for business”. Wasn’t really feeling this match. It’s a faction debut but still I give it a 2.8 out of five.
Cameron Grimes vs. Ari Sterling
Grimes looks to make a comeback after losing the Million Dollar Ladder Match at In Your House.
This match is pretty evenly match as both men go toe-to-toe with high flying moves.
Grimes wins quickly and LA Knight and his Million Dollar title comes to the ramp. They make a pact at the Great American Bash where if LA Knight wins Grimes becomes his butler. If Grimes wins he becomes the Million Dollar champ, I think. Sorry I’m about to eat. Steak and a baked potatoe was the dinner answer.
Kyle O’Reilly comes to the ring to throw down a promo.
This Canuck talks about being a future champion and calls out Adam Cole. Cole comes out but is followed by Samoa Joe and his security to prevent any nasty events.
They go back and forth cutting promos; Joe scoping the situation out. Cole accuses O’Reilly of being obsessed with him. The two go to blows and Joe watches the two fight like children.
Mixed Tag Team Match: Jake Atlas & Mercedes Martinez vs. Tian Shan Faction
All four go at each other. Xia Li goes at Martinez in a flurry of kicks.
Apparently that old, creepy bitch Tian Shan is like thousands of years old.
Anyways we go to commercial.
So I’m relatively new to NXT and the Chinese brother is Boa or Big Boa on the Twitt. Big Boa was a G.I. Joe character.
Anyways, Martinez and Atlas take out Boa as they double team.
All of a sudden Xia Li lands a brutal kick to Xia Li and legitimately knocks her out and forces a bell ring. I give it a n/a as it ended in non-scripted style.
Timothy Thatcher & Tomasso Ciampa/MSK promo
So each team come to the ring with chairs to sit and discuss.
Ciampa goes off and MSK get disrespected and everyone stands up. The crowd loves Ciampa and I don’t know who is the face and who is the heels.
They scuffle for a bit and MSK look shook.
In the parking lot Gargano and Theory attack Kross but fail spectacularly.
North American Championship Match: Isaiah “Swerve” Scott vs. Bronson Reed (c)
Scott comes out with Hit Row.
The challenger starts off trying to over power Reed. Nope. They go at a fast pace but The Champ swats down Scott and starts to overpower him.
Outside of the ring Scott hits a few kicks to make some room but he gets squished by The Champ.
We go to break but get a PIP.
Isaiah “Swerve” Scott turns the momentum with a few kicks and some aerial attacks.
The challenger uses a lot of leverage and momentum to take down Reed. Scott gets a couple of near falls but Bronson ends the run.
Oh man, the announcers make a Dusty Rhodes reference!
As Reed takes care of Hit Row a distracted champ takes a kick by Scott and he gets the pin and win. Wow! We have a new champ. Can’t believe he lost it.
For the literal “swerve” and performances I give it a 4.2 out of five.
