NXT Takeover 36 Results – August 22nd, 2021

Kick Off:

Main Card:

LA Knight (c) Vs. Cameron Grimes – Million Dollar Championship

We’re starting off with the Million Dollar Championship match.  Good call as this match will get the usually dead CWC crowd hyped up.  Cameron Grimes gets to make his entrance first and he is dressed up in the Million Dollar man get up with Ted DiBiase at his side.  Before making his way to the ring, Grimes throws his butler uniform in a trash can at the top of the ramp.  On LA Knights way to the ring, he tosses that trash can to the side.  The bell rings and Cameron Grimes gets off to a quick start by taking control.  After a few punches, knees and a kick in the ropes, Grimes follows it up with a very slow and high back drop.  LA Knight tries to escape to the outside, but Grimes goes after him and goes for his trademark punt kick.  LA Knight moves, but then he misses the trip on Grimes and Cameron eventually gets that kick in.  Knight then gets tossed in to the barracades and set up on the steps.  DiBiase launches Grimes at Knight for a slingshot dropkick that gave Grimes a very unpleasant fall. 

They eventually make their way back in to the ring that leads to Knight taking control by dropping Grimes from the top rope to the outside.  Knight follows him out and starts the beat down and then throws Grimes back in where he continues that beat down with some stomps followed by a guillotine sling shot on the bottom rope.  Grimes starts to fight back after Knight takes his time but after a short burst of offense, LA Knight reverses a hurricanrana attempt in to a powerbomb that gets him a 2 count.  At this time, LA Knight decides to slow the pace down by locking in a chin lock in the middle of the ring but the crowd brings Grimes back to life long enough to escape the hold but then be on the receiving end of a tilt a whirl slam that leads to LA Knight taunting the crowd and Ted DiBiase.  That taunting would distract him long enough so that Grimes could move from an elbow drop.  Knight would attempt a top rope springboard moonsault, but would find nothing but mat which starts the comeback from Grimes.  Cameron’s offense would be haulted when Knight kicked his feet out from under him which lead to Grimes hitting his face on the bottom rope that would lead to a 2 count.  Grimes would try and fight back but would get a bulldog and a reverse fireman carry slam for his efforts which would lead to another 2 count for Knight.  Frustration starts to kick in for LA and he would take too long to follow up as Grimes would push off from Knights attempt to end the match with his finisher. 

Cameron would bring an end to Knights offense with his back flip cross body drop that would get him only a 2 count after a nasty fall.  Grimes puts Knight in the corner and starts hitting him with kicks but would somehow find himself on the top rope with Knight pounding his chest from behind.  Grimes fought him off for the first attempt but Knight would run back up and hit a german suplex that would flip Cameron over on his belly.  LA Knight would get a very long 2 count from that big move.  With blood dripping from his nose, Grimes would get up and reverse Knights finisher again in to the Million Dollar Dream.  He would back him in to the corner but Grimes doesn’t let go.  Knight reversed it in to pinfall which looked like it was 3, but it wasn’t and Grimes STILL had the hold locked in. 

Knight would eventually catapult Grimes in to the corner to break the hold and then would go outside to retrieve his Million Dollar Belt.  The ref stops him long enough from Grimes to get up and kick him so hard in the head, he would fly out of the ring.  As Grimes distracts the ref, Ted DiBiase would get a right hand in on Knight and then lock in his own Million Dollar Dream on Knight.  Ted rolls Knight in which would lead to Grimes hitting the Cave-In on Knight followed by Grimes collapsing on top of him to get the pinfall victory and the Million Dollar Belt.  

Winner & NEW Million Dollar Champion: Cameron Grimes
