In my opinion it was a big surprise when we saw Christian Cage pin Kenny Omega at AEW Rampage to win the Impact World Title, It really felt like we would see Omega drop the title at BFG and to an Impact Wrestling talent. Christian did a good job as the champion and when you look at the matches he had, they were all top notch so nothing changed in the quality of the product in that aspect.

If anything Cage has more in the mic department than Omega (although he can’t hold a candle to Callis), so you had more build to matches through one on one promo work. We got a lot of good in ring time with Cage which is more than we got from Omega and we also got some interesting character progression (whether it be good or bad). Yet it may have helped things for what played out later down the line.

As much as I always loved Christian when he was in TNA, I personally never felt comfortable with him as the champion. Yes he probably shined the brightest when he was in TNA, yet he was still deep down an AEW wrestler holding the Impact title (the same as Omega). Realistically when you look at it despite being a former TNA talent and more pleasing to the fan base, nothing was different as he was still in Omega’s shoes. Impact then tried to strangely turn Cage heel near BFG and it felt a little forced and out of nowhere. It was a decent run, but everything about this run felt a little forced.
