10 WORST Hell In A Cell Matches
Hell In A Cell has seen its fair share of good matches but also…yeah.
6. The Undertaker vs CM Punk (Hell In A Cell 2009)
In 2009, the first Hell In A Cell PPV was announced. Fans were apprehensive about the decision, with it possibly devaluing the stipulation – this opening match did little to settle those fears as The Undertaker squashed CM Punk in little over 10 minutes.
A rising star in Punk was allegedly easily trounced by ‘The Dead Man’ due to Punk speaking back to the backstage politician. ‘Taker stated Punk needed to dress like a champion to which the straight-edge superstar replied “What about John Cena?”. This defiant response got Punk in hot water, leading to this defeat.
The match was decent for what it was but felt very dismissive of the world title scene, only fueling arguments that Hell In A Cell contests would be diluted by a yearly PPV event rather than when absolutely necessary. It also did not aid in the career of Punk who would soon go on to form the Straight Edge Society and a potential run at the top for the former ROH world champion during this era could have been enjoyable even if for a short period.
