10 WORST SummerSlam Matches
The dark side of Summer’s biggest event
9. Randy Savage & Zeus vs Brutus Beefcake & Hulk Hogan (SummerSlam 1989)
Another trash main event, the audience live ate it up and it does ring of the nostalgic camp nature of 80s WWF but not at all a good match.
Held together by the only good wrestler in the match Randy Savage, it featured him teaming with fictional No Holds Barred villian Zeus. This meant actor Tony Lister competed, using deadly moves such as the bearhug and double arm strike – and by such as, I mean only including.
I’m sure you can guess the result, “The Barber” and “The Hulkster” win, yay(!). Hogan used a brick to win then beat up a woman, Sherri Martel, after the belt – what a hero(!). Totally chaotic, there is little else to say but 2 bad wrestlers and an actor trying to make a match work and maybe doing the best they could. That said, don’t blame Zeus, blame the creative team who deemed him worthy of main eventing a huge event just to get some cheap plugs for a WWF movie.
