2. Title for Title
Vs. Seth Rollins – Title for Title for WWE and United States Championship (Summerslam 2015)
The same night the “Heist of the Century” occurred, John Cena also had his first mid-card title in over ten years. While Seth Rollins enjoyed his first WWE Championship run, Cena has U.S. open challenge week in and week out. These open challenges created some of the most exciting matches leading up to Summerslam. Cena built the United States Championship into a prestigious level that outshined the WWE Championship on some shows.
Cena would go onto his ninth world title match at Summerslam and blow the roof off the Barclay’s Center. The match ending may have been lackluster with the inference of John Stewart, but still the show that night. This match and his open challenges were great examples of how Cena can adapt to this new wave of talent coming through WWE at the time.
