Since 1988, WWE held the SummerSlam PPV event and it’s considered as one of the Big Four PPVs of the year. WWE calls SummerSlam the biggest party of the summer. This event has given us so many memorable matches and moments since it’s inception. This year’s SummerSlam will be the 34th anniversary of the PPV and the match card is already looking huge with Reigns and Cena in the main event.
What I’m here to do is look back at the previous 33 years of SummerSlam to pluck out the 10 best SummerSlam main event matches of all time.
10. Brock Lesnar Vs. The Undertaker (SummerSlam 2015)
The Number 10 spot belongs to one of the underrated main events in the recent memories. Undertaker and Brock Lesnar are two larger than life stars and watching them both beating the living hell out of each other is a treat for fans. Taker and Lesnar have a very long history together and they faced off several times during Ruthless Aggression Era. But, the rivalry comes under spotlight when Lesnar broke Taker’s 21 years long Wrestlemania Streak.
Undertaker made his shocking return after one and half year and cost Lesnar his match against Seth Rollins for the WWE Title at Battleground PPV. The following night at RAW, a rematch between Lesnar and Undertaker was scheduled for SummerSlam, and man ‘what a match’!!
This match is one of the most underrated matches in Undertaker’s career, after getting concussed at Mania 30, he made his triumphant return and had an absolute banger match with The Beast. The match ended in a controversial fashion; Lesnar put Undertaker in his Kimura lock and the timekeeper rang the bell after seeing the Undertaker tap out, but since the referee had not seen a submission, the match continued. The confusion allowed Undertaker to surprise Lesnar with a low blow before trapping him in the Hell’s Gate submission hold, during which Lesnar passed out to give Undertaker the win.
Lesnar vs The Rock
Rock vs Angle vs HHH
Edge vs Undertaker really stood out for me.
